Research Question:How can we address the growing youth concussion epidemic?
Thesis Statement:To do this several steps need to be taken, first and foremost we need to recognize this is due to a culture of ignorance surrounding concussions in sports and work to change the culture, we need to create a more efficient and effective diagnosis and treatment, implement better concussion protocols into schools, and focus on informing the public about the dangers concussions can pose.

Thesis Paper:
Action Project Description:For my action project I worked with a local group called Grey Matters whose focus is on youth concussions in our county. They typically do this through presentations at school and their helmet giveaway project. Before covid my plan was to hold lessons at schools demonstrating the impact concussions can have. But due to recent events my plan had to change. I asked Amy, who runs grey matters what would be most helpful to her. We decided on creating new modern pamphlets for the organization, and creating a new concussion video demonstrating proper helmet usage.
Although it wasn't the most exciting project, I think it will have an impact. Grey matters old material was outdated, with incorrect contact information. Because of this I updated their concussion statistics and contact information, allowing schools and other youth groups to get in contact with and discover grey matters much easier to hold presentations when that becomes possible again, helping to spread concussion information in our area. |
