Research Question:To what extent is there a genetic, sociological, and historical link between ‘madness’ and creativity?
Thesis Statement:Psychologists have concluded that there are biological and sociological links between creativity and mental disorders. However, there are dangerous outcomes stemming from the misconception about the necessity of madness in order to be a successful artist. Therefore, these links must be better understood.

Thesis Paper:
Action Project Description:I decided to explore my own connection to the 'tortured artist' trope by creating an album and documenting my own mental state while creating in a journal. I found that I was more likely to create when I was upset, but afterwards, I without a doubt felt better. I was able to prove to myself qualitatively that art is not the result of pain, but the healing factor. I wanted to share my album with an audience, and because of Covid, I thought that the best way to do this was to release it to Spotify, and other platforms that people listen to online. We all had to adjust our ideas to the new circumstances, but I am just happy that there is the capability for independent artists to share their work without a record label.
