Research Question:

In what ways can Nudge Theory serve as a more Humane and Equally Effective Substitute for China's Social Credit System?

Thesis Statement:

While the SCS is effective at getting Chinese to conform to laws and regulations of the CCP at the expense of individual rights and liberties, a more humane policy would follow Ivanković and Engelen’s Opportunity for Watchfulness, the ability to transform ex post nudges into ex ante ones.

Action Project Description:

For my action project, I wanted to see if plain ex ante nudges work in public. I decided to cooperate with another student to give away free masks in front of Nature's Oasis in Durango. While we were optimistic on having no masks left to give away, it turns out that only about a quarter of our stock was in public hands. Which means the project was successful, despite the low outcome, a nudge is still a nudge and it proved that ex ante nudges work.
